Malaysian television broadcasting was introduced on 28
December 1963. Color television was introduced on 28 December 1978. Full-time
color transmissions of grand launched until officially inaugurated on New
Year's Day 1982. There are currently 8 national free-to-air terrestrial
television stations in Malaysia and 2 national pay subscription television
stations in Malaysia.
The most well known and the only two tv stations that is
owned by the government is RTM1 and TV2. Others non-government tv stations is
TV3, NTV7, 8TV and TV9.
As for newspapers, there a wide varieties of it but the
most prominent one is Malay Mail, The Star, The Sun, New Straits Times, Berita
Harian, Harian Metro and Utusan Malaysia.
For example like government tv station RTM1 and TV2,
those two stations is fully support by government and no matter what their tv
rating for the shows, they still get their paychecks unlike other non-government
television station. But of course, RTM1 and TV2 will prioritize government advertisements
and slots rather than showing actually entertainment.
As for TV3, NTV7, 8TV and TV9, they only get their
payment based on what they show and people rating. If the show is good and
well-liked by viewers, this will instantly increase their income. Vice versa,
if the show is bad and receive less viewers, the amount of income they get will
explain that show is not worth it.
